Handyman-Level Services (BC Compliance)
To provide safe, reliable service while meeting BC regulations, I offer only handyman-level plumbing and electrical work. The details below outline the tasks I can complete, as well as the work that must legally be performed by a certified professional. This ensures every project is handled properly, safely, and within provincial requirements.
Minor Plumbing Services I Can Provide
(All services remain within BC’s permitted scope for non-certified individuals.)
- Replace faucet aerators, showerheads, tap handles, and cosmetic fixtures
- Replace faucet cartridges
- Repair or replace toilet fill valves, flush valves, flappers, and handles
- Replace supply hoses for sinks and toilets
- Swap P-traps under sinks (direct replacements only)
- Tighten loose fittings and basic leak prevention at fixture connections
- Clear simple clogs using plungers or handheld consumer-grade snakes
- Apply silicone or caulking around sinks, tubs, and fixtures
- Clean filters on dishwashers and washing machines
- Position, level, or secure appliances that do not require plumbing modification
Plumbing Services I Cannot Perform
- Hot water tank installation or replacement
- Any alterations to potable water lines or drainage systems
- Installing, moving, or modifying plumbing pipes
- Sweating copper or any work requiring specialized plumbing tools
- Work requiring a plumbing permit or a licensed plumber
Minor Electrical Services I Can Provide
(Limited to non-invasive tasks that do not involve altering wiring or circuits.)
- Replace light bulbs, including smart bulbs
- Install plug-in, battery-powered, or solar lighting
- Install or replace non-electrical faceplates
- Reset GFCI outlets, breakers, and perform basic troubleshooting
- Mount TVs, smart devices, wireless cameras, and video doorbells (plug-in or battery only)
- Install plug-in smart home devices, thermostats, and lighting controls
- Manage cables, organize wires, and set up entertainment systems
- Replace cords or adapters on low-voltage devices (not permanent wiring)
Electrical Services I Cannot Perform
- Replace or install outlets or light switches
- Install or replace hardwired light fixtures
- Add, modify, or extend electrical wiring
- Work inside electrical panels or breakers
- Run new electrical lines in garages, workshops, or renovations
- Perform work requiring an electrical permit or certified electrician
General Construction Services I Can Provide
These construction and repair tasks fall within the allowable scope for a non-licensed handyman in BC. They involve small-scale, non-structural work that does not require permits or the involvement of certified trades.
- Repairing or replacing interior door hardware (hinges, handles, latches)
- Hanging, adjusting, or aligning interior doors
- Installing trim, baseboards, and mouldings
- Minor drywall repairs such as holes, dents, and patching
- Constructing small, non-load-bearing interior partitions
- Installing shelves, wall-mounted fixtures, coat racks, and storage units
- Repairing decks, fences, gates, and exterior features when the work is non-structural
- Weatherproofing with caulking or sealing around windows and doors
- Installing prefabricated cabinetry or furniture that does not require structural modification
- General maintenance and small carpentry tasks not requiring permits
Construction Services I Cannot Perform
- Any structural modifications to walls, floors, decks, or framing
- Building or modifying load-bearing walls or supports
- Work requiring engineered drawings or municipal permits
- Roofing, major exterior envelope work, or structural deck repairs
- Foundation work, concrete cutting, or structural slab modification
- Any trade work requiring licensed carpenters or certified specialists

When Licensed Trades Are Required
For tasks outside of permitted handyman scope, I maintain relationships with trusted, certified professionals. When a project requires licensed plumbing or electrical expertise, I can coordinate the appropriate trades to ensure the work is completed safely and correctly.
